O Mito / The Myth

July 21, 2010

A few days ago I went with Rasta (John Magelian) to film one of the prettiest lines in Sintra – O Mito.  The climb was so baptized because its existence was mythical.  The boulder was first found by a lone climber exploring the dense vegetation of the mountain.  Its moves were too demanding for the climbers of that time so it was forgotten and soon the mountain repossessed it with its rapidly growing vegetation.  Years went by and the boulder became a myth, its existence was put into question and no-one could find it to prove that it was real.

It was, of course, rediscovered.

Here is the video that I put together from Rasta’s excellent dual-camera filming.

On a side note, the Hoya Moros video from a few weeks ago has had really good reviews!  Thanks everyone for watching and sharing!!  I’ll be heading back there tomorrow night and will surely return with move footage!!

Hoya Moros

July 9, 2010

Last week I went to an idyllic bouldering spot up high in the Candelario mountains of Spain.

At 12:30 AM, and after 4 hours driving, I and 3 friends started a 2.5hr steep uphill hike, being more lost than on the right path and finally arriving completely exhausted.

I was convinced then that no matter how good the climbing could possibly be it was not worth the effort.

I was wrong.

Hoya Moros is a gorgeous bouldering area with excellent climbing.  Crystal clear ice-fed rivers divide the valley.  Bright green lichen covers the rocks.  It is easy to forget the hardships of life while bathing naked and climbing perfect lines.

Here is a short video I made of the trip.
